ふうりん — a focus room
Work somewhere
quieter.
A window you can change, a jazz station that has been playing all night, and a glass wind chime overhead that rings when the wind catches it. Set a timer, keep a list, and get on with it.

風鈴 — fūrin
A wind chime you hang in summer, to hear the air move.
In Japan a fūrin is tied in an open window through the hot months. It does not mark time or call anyone. It only answers the breeze — and the sound is held to make a room feel cooler than it is.
外身
gaimi · The bell
A glass dome, painted on the inside so the pattern sits behind the glass. It is what rings.
舌
zetsu · The clapper
Hung on a thread down the middle. Air moves it, and it strikes the dome from within.
短冊
tanzaku · The paper
A strip tied below the clapper. It catches what the clapper cannot, and carries the wish.
The one hanging on this page has all three, and the glass is refracting the scene behind it. It is the same chime that hangs in the room.
